Windows 10 upgraded this week and I found myself with the same problem yet again.

The drive should now work! It should appear in вЂњThis PCвЂќ and it should appear in вЂњDevice ManagerвЂќ in the list of вЂњDVD/CD-ROM drivesвЂќ.

Restart the computer and let it boot up.

With the computer powered off, plug in the external drive to the USB ports.

Shut down your computer (be sure to shut it down fully, donвЂ™t just restart it).

Unplug the external drive from the USB ports.

Click on вЂUninstall DeviceвЂ™, and then follow the instructions carefully to ensure that you do uninstall the drivers (IMPORTANT: you may need to click on a checkbox to confirm that you want to delete the driver software вЂ“ donвЂ™t miss this step if so).

In the window that pops up click on the вЂDriverвЂ™ tab.

Now right-click on it again and click вЂPropertiesвЂ™.

OK, so follow these instructions TO THE LETTER. I do not know why this works, but it does. If you get rid of Initio, your computer will recognize your Blu-Ray drive properly. If the вЂњInitio ComboвЂќ thing disappears, then thatвЂ™s the problem: Windows 10 is mistaking your Blu-Ray drive for this useless Initio thing. If so, see what happens if you unplug the external drive. If your external drive is completely missing from Device Manager, look to see if there is an entry called вЂњInitio Combo Device ClassвЂќ.

First, look to see if the drive is listed there but with an exclamation mark next to it if so, thatвЂ™s a different problem and youвЂ™ll need to look somewhere else for the solution. It's definitely plugged in okay because i installed windows 8 using it and i can hear discs spinning inside it, i have upgraded to 8.1 with all updates available windows is also telling me i have the latest driver installed for it and so is other driver detecting software, i'm literally lost for ideas on how to fix it, people in other places have said it something to do with the registers but i'm rubbish with that stuff so i don't know what to do

However this could be a issue with Windows 8 since there was multiple issues at launch with Blu-Ray drives, so if you have the opportunity to go back to Windows 7 or upgrade to 8.1, it might fix this issue but I can't say it 'will' work. Okay, so my main assumption right now is that the Blu Ray drive is not plugged in correctly into the motherboard, you will need to open your PC up to make sure that the Blu Ray drive is plugged in the SATA port correctly.
